Dear
Friends of Chica Luna,
Take
a minute and imagine a world in which popular entertainment did
not exploit women's bodies for amusement. Visualize for a moment
a society where the world's diversity is reflected in its true
form in magazine ads and billboards in Times Square. Believe for
just a second that television programs and popular music were not
driven by stereotypes and profit but by creativity, passion, and
depth. This is a world that we at Chica Luna believe is not out
of reach but possible considering the dynamic gifts that exist
in our communities.
Chica
Luna Productions takes our responsibility to the community very
seriously. As a non profit organization located in El Barrio, we
exist to 1.) hold media entities accountable for the way they portray
communities of color, especially women, 2.) train young women of
color to create media that reflects themselves and their realities
and 3.) support these young women as they set upon their path to
become innovators and leaders in the media industry while remaining
accountable to their own communities. Initiatives such as our F-Word
Media Justice Program and the Media Justice Toolkit seek to put
the power of representation in the hands of communities of color. As
a grassroots, neighborhood based organization, we believe in the
power of the community to impact change across the world.
At
Chica Luna, we believe that YOU are powerful, that YOU are deserving,
and that YOU are rich in all the talents necessary to make our
society a healthy, productive, and just place. Your generosity
over the last four years has enabled us to support the programs
that we and you hold dear. We ask you to continue to support Chica
Luna with your donations, particularly in this time of giving and
new years. Each donation is important to us and helps us keep the
doors of the organization open. For example, a $50 donation allows
us to purchase a box of mini DVs, a donation of $500 helps us to
upgrade to the latest editing software, and a gift of $1000 pays
for instructional materials for 8 young women in the F-Word. No
donation is too small to make a difference. All donations are tax-deductible
and donations of $250 and above guarantee a copy of our 2007 DVD
compilation listed below. Please donate online at our secured Groundspring.org page
or make all check payable to Latino Educational Media Center.
Let's
celebrate the beginning of an honorable and transformative world
by supporting organizations that work to make this happen. Happy
Holidays from Chica Luna Productions!
In
solidarity,
