Anthology Project

Our anthology is designed to celebrate women and give a voice to our deepest secrets, emotions and experiences. To educate, inspire, enlighten and liberate, our communities within our perimeters and to the farthest of oceanic borders. This collection of works stands as a reminder and a breath of encouragement to document and share our stories with the honesty, commitment, and the "flava" as only we can. With this publication we hope that the next generation of writers will begin to create legacies through their words.

Because of the tremendous response to our open call this summer, we have received over 100 entries from both men and women of all race, ethnicities, creeds, sexual orientation, and educational and economic backgrounds.

Director of Operations, Karly Beaumont and anthology intern, Yahaira Paulino are joined by, author of the children's book, MY FEET ARE LAUGHING (FSG), Lissette J. Norman who are currently in the selection process.

Lissette J. Norman is an applauded writer. Her work appears in anthologies: Bum Rush The Page: A Def Poetry Jam, and Role Call: A Generational Anthology of Social & Political Black Literature & Art. Also in Mosaic Literary Magazine, African Voices, Long Shot and Drum Voices Revue. She won the Lee & Low Books' "2003 New Voices Honor Award." Lissette received her BA in English at SUNY-Binghamton.

Chosen submissions will be notified via email by January 15th, 2007. They will have an opportunity to work with professional editors.

This project seeks to promote over-looked and under-published communities, which represent exceptional new talent, powerful voices and delectable stories. It will feature a collection of poems (Haiku's included), short stories, personal essays, and original art.
