JOTARIA (IN DEVELOPMENT)

IN COLLABORATION WITH SISTER OUTSIDER ENTERTAINMENT
JOTARIA (or Queerness in English) is a multi-media, hip-hop cabaret (a visual multi-media performance piece that utilizes spoken word, performance, film, music and the internet to create a series of eight dramatized monologues). It reflects the issues and concerns of the urban LGBT community while examining the often invisible expression of sexual freedom and gender identity in all their variations among urban queer Latinas (or jotas in Spanish). JOTARIA was inspired by the numerous youth of color that have been slayed due to hate crimes and remain invisible, the stereotypical and racist representation of queer people of color in popular media, the disenfranchisement, poverty and homelessness of queer youth of color and the Hell Houses that have been created by the Christian Right to persuade and scare queer youth into being straight. JOTARIA, aims to create greater access to young Latina Queer Artists and create a visibility to their silence.
